My Chance to Dance with the Light

You are the first

that allowed me to speak

about pieces of me.

I’ve never felt the need

to flee.

I finally felt free,

to be

me.

You have showed me that I have everything

inside of me

that I need.

That there is no shame

in feeling or being

a certain way.

Helping me lift the dark curtain,

of uncertainty within.

Pointed me in the direction,

with no exceptions

to find my courage

even when I was

discouraged.

You never gave up on me

even when i misbehaved

or strayed.

You stayed.

You always gave me

another chance

to get up and dance.

A chance to reunite

with the light.

Dancing with the Light

I felt compelled to write this poem to honor the power of a supportive non-judgmental relationship.

This was a singular experience where someone provided the safety and comfort allowing me to finally be myself. It’s a celebration of how that kind of acceptance helped me find my own light and courage. If we can all find that in one person, maybe we could all start the healing process within.
