“A Man No One Loved”
I once knew a man
who had not one fan.
So unloved
His cold heart was filled
with such sorrow and hate.
What a state.
Such pain
and distain
was his domain.
I see all he retains
Why he remains in chains.
Trained by his pains
he is drained.
When near
he delivers fear
often interferes.
Others are smothered
for he has no brothers
no friends, no children, no sisters
only blisters.
No one wants him
No one cares
They are unaware
of his sad affairs.
No one will stop by
to say a prayer
or relieve his despair
It’s so unfair
Despite what he’s done
he is someone’s son.
He deserves to be unspun
Yet he’s only shunned.

About this Poem
As a healthcare provider with over 25 years of experience, I wrote this poem to reflect on my interactions with a particular individual who exhibited signs of deep emotional trauma and social isolation. Although this person was reluctant to share his past, his behavior towards staff members, including myself, revealed much about his struggles.
Being an empath, I could sense his pain and recognized that he was consumed by his hardships. He lacked support from friends and family and had been socially isolated for months, confined to a bed with only brief interactions with staff.
I felt a profound sense of empathy for him as I contemplated his struggles, which led to heartfelt reflections during my meditation at the end of the day. The words of this poem flowed from my heart as if they were spilling out of me.
